Produced in Madagascar by skilled artisans, who we can assure are paid a very fair wage to continue their ancient tradition of weaving.
The materials are sustainable. The raffia is obtained from the (Raphia) palm trees, in Madagascar. Governmental laws also help protect the preservation of the raffia palms.
From June to October each year, the harvest of raffia palm is limited. This is to allow the raffia palm tree branches to regrow, before the start of the next harvest season.
All harvesting and processing of the raffia are undertaken by local people. Everything is done manually and with the utmost respect for the surrounding environment.
To obtain these beautiful authentic raffia placemats here in the UK they arrive mainly by sea and road.
Our suppliers are working hard to ensure their carbon footprint is offset with their ethical approach by becoming active members of The Woodland Trust.
